About the Wholesale Price Calculator

Wholesale Price Calculator sets the price you charge retailers from your unit cost and the margin you want to keep. It also shows your profit per unit, the equivalent markup, and a suggested retail price using a multiplier: 2 is keystone pricing, the usual retail standard.

Pricing a whole catalogue? Use Run on many below the calculator with a CSV of unit costs.

How to use it

  1. Enter what one unit costs you to make or buy.
  2. Enter the gross margin you want to keep.
  3. Adjust the retail multiplier if your retailers use something other than keystone.
  4. Read the wholesale price, profit, markup and suggested retail.

Example

A $12.00 unit cost at a 45% margin gives a $21.82 wholesale price: $9.82 profit per unit, an 81.82% markup, and a $43.64 suggested retail price at 2×.

Questions

How is the wholesale price worked out?

Price = cost ÷ (1 − margin). At a 45% margin: $12.00 ÷ 0.55 = $21.82.

Why isn't 45% margin the same as adding 45%?

Adding 45% to cost is a markup. A 45% margin means 45% of the selling price is profit, which needs a bigger increase on cost (81.82% here).

Can I price many products at once?

Yes. Run on many takes a CSV with a unit cost per product: 10 rows free, up to 10,000 with Pro.
