About the Markup Calculator

Markup Calculator turns a cost and a markup percentage into a selling price, and shows the profit and the margin that markup gives you. It is the quickest way to apply cost-plus pricing.

How to use it

  1. Enter what one unit costs you.
  2. Enter the markup to add on top of cost (100% doubles it).
  3. Read the selling price, profit and margin.

Example

A $40.00 cost with a 50% markup sells for $60.00, making $20.00 profit: a 33.33% margin.

Questions

What's the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is profit as a share of cost; margin is profit as a share of the price. A 50% markup is a 33.33% margin.

What markup gives a 50% margin?

A 100% markup: doubling the cost means half the price is profit.

Can I mark up a whole list?

Yes, with Run on many below the calculator: upload a CSV of costs.
