About the Profit Margin Calculator

Profit Margin Calculator shows what a product really earns you: profit per unit, margin (profit as a share of the price) and markup (profit as a share of cost). Margin and markup describe the same profit from different sides, which is why they are so often confused.

With Utilwell Pro you can run it on a whole catalogue at once with a CSV of costs and prices.

How to use it

  1. Enter your full cost per unit, including shipping and fees.
  2. Enter the selling price before tax.
  3. Read the margin, markup and profit.

Example

A product that costs $60 and sells for $100 makes $40 profit: a 40% margin and a 66.67% markup.

Questions

What's the difference between margin and markup?

Margin divides profit by the price; markup divides it by the cost. $40 profit on a $100 price is a 40% margin, but a 66.67% markup on the $60 cost.

What should my margin be?

It depends on your industry and costs. Make sure the margin covers your overheads and ad spend, not just the product cost.

Can I check many products?

Yes. Use Run on many below the calculator with a CSV of costs and prices (10 rows free, 10,000 with Pro).
