About the Listing Title Checker

Listing Title Checker measures a product title against each marketplace's limit at once: Amazon 200 characters, Etsy 140, eBay 80 and Google Shopping 150, plus the roughly 70 characters Google shows before cutting an SEO title off.

It also checks two Amazon title rules that get listings suppressed: no word more than twice, and none of the characters ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ unless they are part of the brand name.

How to use it

  1. Paste your title.
  2. Read the length against each marketplace.
  3. Fix anything marked too long, and any Amazon rule notes.

Example

A 101-character shirt title fits Amazon (99 left), Etsy (39 left) and Google Shopping (49 left), but is 21 characters too long for eBay and will be cut off in Google search results.

Questions

Do spaces count?

Yes. Every marketplace counts spaces and punctuation as characters.

Why doesn't "and" count as a repeated word?

Amazon's repeated-word rule is about keyword stuffing, so small words like "and", "for" and "with" are left out of the check.

Are these limits for every category?

They are the standard limits. Some Amazon categories set shorter titles, so check your category's style guide.
