About the eBay Fee Calculator

eBay Fee Calculator works out the final value fee, the per-order fee and any Promoted Listings cost on a sale, then subtracts your item and postage costs to show profit.

eBay charges its final value fee on the whole amount the buyer pays, including shipping and sales tax. Tax isn't your money, so the calculator charges the fee on it but leaves it out of what you keep.

How to use it

  1. Enter the sold price and the shipping the buyer paid.
  2. Add the sales tax the buyer paid, if any.
  3. Pick the category, or enter your own rate.
  4. Add your Promoted Listings ad rate and your costs.

Example

A $50 sale with $8 shipping and $4 sales tax: 13.6% of $62 is $8.43, plus a $0.40 per-order fee, so $8.83 in fees and you keep $49.17. With a $15 item cost and $8 postage, profit is $26.17 (45.1% margin).

Questions

What is the eBay final value fee?

For most categories it is 13.6% of the total sale up to $7,500 and 2.35% above that, plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less).

Why does sales tax increase my fee?

eBay calculates the final value fee on the total the buyer pays, including tax, even though the tax goes to the state.

I have an eBay Store. Are my fees different?

Store subscribers get lower rates in many categories. Choose "Other rate" and enter your rate.

Which categories are different?

Books, movies and music are 15.3%; guitars and basses 6.7%; athletic shoes $150 and over 8% with no per-order fee. Other exceptions exist, so use "Other rate" for them.
