Etsy fees in 2026, explained with examples
Etsy takes about 10% of a typical sale once every fee is added up, and close to 25% when the sale comes from an Offsite Ad. Here is each fee for a US shop, what it's charged on, and what that means on real prices.
The four fees on every sale
| Fee | How much | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing, and again each time an item sells and the listing renews |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price plus the shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | The full order total, including sales tax (US shops using Etsy Payments) |
| Offsite Ads | 15%, or 12% for shops over $10,000 a year | Item plus shipping, only when the sale came from an Etsy ad on another site; capped at $100 per order |
Shipping is the fee most sellers forget. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping the buyer pays too, so charging $5 for shipping costs you $0.33 in transaction fees and $0.15 in processing.
What you keep, by price
US shop, no sales tax, worked out with the Etsy Fee Calculator:
| Sale | Etsy fees | Share of the sale | You keep | From an Offsite Ad |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10 item, free shipping | $1.40 | 14.0% | $8.60 | $7.10 |
| $20 item, free shipping | $2.35 | 11.8% | $17.65 | $14.65 |
| $35 item + $5 shipping | $4.25 | 10.6% | $35.75 | $29.75 |
| $100 item + $10 shipping | $10.90 | 9.9% | $99.10 | $82.60 |
Cheap items lose a bigger share because the $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing fee are fixed. On a $10 item those two alone are 4.5% of the sale.
A worked example
A $35 candle with $5 shipping. Listing $0.20, plus transaction 6.5% of $40 = $2.60, plus processing 3% of $40 + $0.25 = $1.45. Total $4.25, so you keep $35.75. If it cost $10 to make and $5 to post, profit is $20.75, a 51.9% margin.
If the same sale came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% of $40 = $6.00. Fees become $10.25 and profit falls to $14.75.
Offsite Ads: the fee you can't predict
Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram and other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges the Offsite Ads fee on that order. Shops that made under $10,000 in the past year can opt out; shops over $10,000 can't, but pay 12% instead of 15%.
Because you can't tell which sales will carry the fee, price so a sale with the ad fee still makes money. Check your margins at the 15% rate, not just the normal one.
Other fees you might see
- Currency conversion: 2.5% if you list in a different currency from your payment account.
- Regulatory operating fee: a small percentage on sales in some countries, such as the UK and France.
- Etsy Ads: optional on-site ads with a daily budget you set.
- Etsy Plus: an optional $10 a month subscription with listing credits and ad credits.
How to keep more of each sale
- Price from your costs, not your competitors. Start from materials, time and overhead with the Handmade Pricing Calculator, then check what's left after fees.
- Raise very low prices or bundle. Fixed fees hit items under $15 hardest.
- Build shipping into the price carefully. Free shipping and charged shipping are charged the same percentage, so neither saves fees; pick whichever converts better.
- Plan for the ad fee. If your margin at the 15% Offsite Ads rate is thin, raise prices or opt out while you can.
Fees here are for US shops using Etsy Payments, as of October 2026. Etsy changes fees from time to time; check etsy.com/legal/fees for the latest.
