About the Payment Fee Calculator

Payment Fee Calculator shows what you keep from a sale after card processing fees, or works backwards to what you should charge to keep a set amount. Presets use common published rates for Stripe, PayPal and Square. Check your own account, since rates vary by plan and country.

How to use it

  1. Choose "what I keep" or "what to charge".
  2. Enter the amount.
  3. Pick a processor or enter your own percentage and fixed fee.
  4. Read the fees and the result.

Example

At 2.9% + $0.30, a $100.00 sale costs $3.20 in fees, so you keep $96.80. To keep $50.00 after 3.49% + $0.49, charge $52.32.

Questions

Why can't I just add the fee percentage?

The fee is charged on the higher price too. To keep an amount, divide by (1 − rate) after adding the fixed fee.

Are currency conversion fees included?

No. International cards and currency conversion often add 1–2% more.

Why round up?

The price is rounded up to the cent so you never keep less than your target.
